Salmon are amazing animals, almost mystical actually. they are born in fresh water, grow to maturity in salt water and then return to their natal stream, to the very gravel bed in which they were born to spawn. It is a journey of thousands of miles driven by a powerful imperative to return home and threatened daily by innumerable dangers including gill nets, purse seiners, trollers, bears, bald eagles, wolves, parasites, orcas, ocean trash and pollution. I found the gathering schools of pink salmon filling the local rivers from bank to bank to be, in a word, wondrous.
Here are three of my pictures I took last week of salmon in the Indian River in Sitka, Alaska.
Beautiful
Wonderful pics. They ( the Salmon) emphasize the mystery in which we live. Reminds me of our local alewife.
Nice images!
