Hidden behind the Color
Messin' around with some pics late last night and look what I found!! There, right in front of me all this time, where some really nice black and white forest images! they had been hiding behind all the wonderful color! Several of the 20 or so pics I turned into b&w in Lightroom where color images that were nice but didn't quite make it as really nice....
Old Friends
So here is the result of all that scanning that was done by the Scan Cafe- I found many of my old friends! Images that I hadn't seen in many years that used to be my favorites and that had been hidden in the dark alleys of past technologies were suddenly in my computer, up on my screen and slapping me in my face saying "Remember me!!" It's interesting...

Scanning Images
I wanted to report on my experience of sending slides off to a remote company to have them scanned. I have 100,000 slides in my office and since I haven't used them or even looked at them in several years I decided it was time to either get rid of them all (more on that later) or at least scan the ones I might use later. So I went through a few filing...
A Gift for You
Tis the season, the season to look back and take stock of the year past as we look forward to the year to come. And I have had a year that requires much looking back upon. From the joys of a new book and new students to the quite literal heartbreak of a mid-year heart attack my year has been nothing if not eventful. My heart attack snuck up on me in July...
Happy Holidays!
Happy Holidays to Everyone Wide and Far!!!! May your f-stops be plentiful, your shutter speeds accurate and your ISO noise-free! And may you have the courage to try something completely different this year and the joy to laugh at your mistakes and celebrate your successes.
Try it you might like it
Change “Change is a tonic.” Boy, I wish I had written that. But, I didn’t. Just another example of the many pithy things my small but perfectly formed brain has missed. It was written by William Zinsser, the author of the best book about writing (On Writing Well) and it rang true as soon as I read it. What he was getting at was that for all creative types...
Shooting and Thinking Like a Pro
The hardest part of the class, Shooting and Thinking like a Pro, that I teach with Scott Rouse and Jeff Wendorff is coming up with a title that captures everything that we do in the class. I have taught the class for more than 15 years and it must have had half a dozen titles- Going Pro, Shooting Like a Pro, Earning Money with Photography, Thinking like a...
Wintery Photography
Tis the season for many of us to go out into the elements and photograph snowy winter scenes. I have done this for years and for many of them I was often disappointed with the images I got. They were perfectly nice and technically fine but there was something missing- they didn't look wintery even though they were taken in winter. I finally figured out...

The price of the workshop is $1075. The alternative is to not come with us and then spend that week fretting and cranky...
